Use

Simple use

Apart from the simple search still another further Suchmaske (extended search) is available, over which certain filters can be used.

The simple search uses the boolean operator during inputs according to standard "„AND "“(conjunction: AND, alternatively also "„+ "“) with the entry of several terms. It is looked for thereby for all documents, in which these terms occur. Is weighted, beside PAGE climbs, usually after the fact where the terms stand - whether in the title of a side, the document name or listing, a heading etc.

Apart from the boolean linkage of standard AND also a boolean can be used "„OR "“(disjunction OR, alternatively also "„| "“). Search example: "„Beach OR Beach "“- one both as also instruction. Google considers thereby all words, which occur within a OR-chain. If one has more than two words to the selection, one links these thus too "„Wort1 OR Wort2 OR Wort3"… "“. The linkage with clips does not function with Google, e.g. "„(drive car) OR (airplane fly) "“.

In order to limit the search further, one can look for accurate cliches. The search words emerge then not indiscriminately in the document, but must be present in a certain arrangement. Accurate search cliches are marked with quotation marks "“. Search example: "„Working on Google "“. No documents are looked for, in which the word is located "„to working on "“and the word somewhere somewhere "„Google "“, but only such, in which the words in this order occur. Alternatively a substitute symbol, recognizable made by an asterisk* "“, can be set also for a word.

As the further exclusion criterion a minus sign can find "„- "“use. Search example: "„Hannibal - Lecter "“. Craze after an antique field gentleman and excludes however sides, in which the name stands for Lecter in connection with a film figure named "„"“.

All these functions are accessible over the left extended search over a form. There are Suchmasken also in addition-going.

The often usual search with Wildcards is not meanwhile possible with Google. Thus with the search for "„Googl* "“not for the terms "„Googlin "“is looked for or "„Googler "“, but only for "„Googl "“.

The search permits an inquiry with up to 32 search words (also as cliche). This option is helpful for looking for for doublets or secondary utilizations of a text.

On the basis these linkages (to be combined used can), already very precise inquiries are possible. The inquiry results become the better, the more intelligently one questions at Google place. Questions about banal search words result in usually rather poor results.

Further functions:

Pocket calculator during input of simple mathematical ways of writing like e.g. "„"“Google spends 2+5 (4/5) ^8 according to standard no sides, in which this formulation occurs, but returns the result of the calculation (= 2,8388608). Unit computer one can leave also units converting: e.g. "„to cm "“spell verification Google supplies a suggestion on the correct way of writing to inch with with wrongly written words ("„you meant"… "“). The recommendation been based on a phonetic, fully automated comparison, which can partly lead to wrong suggestions. Thus Google recommended longer time with a search for "„bark pig "“a search for "„Turk pig "“. http://blog.basquiat.de/archives/82-Kampf-den-Maschinen!.html

Extended use

It knows additionally to this simple search syntax an extended syntax into the Suchmaske entered, and/or to a large extent also over "„the extended search "“to be together-clicked. The following, partly undokumentierte key terms are at present well-known. These key terms become by a colon: "“characterized.

  • cache: - spends only the sides stored by Google. Is above all practical, if with portals contents often change. The left, which one finds with Google, up-to-date often leads on a side, whose contents deleted themselves to have in the meantime changed or. Contents are however stored during a certain period still with Google and can be read there.
  • DATE rank: - limits the search to a date range, within which the side was indexed by Google. As numerical data numbers must be entered related to the Julian date. These numbers from the number of days, since 1 January 4713 the v. Chr are calculated. passed. Example: 30.06.2003-30.06.2004 = DATE rank: 2452820-2453186 (

  • DEFINE: - Scans Internet encyclopedias such as Wikipedia and others according to a definition of the search word.
  • file type: - Craze after documents, with certain file endings. Example: business report file type: xls. Possible all file endings are fundamental. • inanchor: - Craze after the terms only in left. Often a left with a certain designation leads more precisely to a goal, as if the designation occurs somewhere in the text.

  • intitle: - Craze after documents, with which seem to that or the search words only in the title of the file. Example: intitle: "“Working on Google"”
  • left: - Spends all sides, on a certain page the left. Example: left: wikipedia.org. This expenditure can be about important, in order PAGE climbs to optimize or related sides find.
  • site: - with this key term the search can be limited on a certain Domain. Practically above all if homepage does not have an own search function (e.g. site: de.wikipedia.org) or to the fast search within a Top level Domain (e.g.
     Bundeskanzlerin site: com

    ).
  • related: - looks for similar sides (e.g. related: de.wikipedia.org)
